About/How to:
To navigate these maps you can zoom, scroll and search. If you are hovering over a location on a desktop it will display the information, alternatively if you on a mobile or tablet you need to tap on each location to find out the estimated vote share there. Colours correspond to each campaign's offical/defacto colour (Orange for No, Purple for Yes) with the deeper/darker the colour respresenting a higher vote share for that campaign in a particualr reason.
These highly detailed maps of the 2023 Voice Rerfdendum are generated by ultilisting results from polling places as well as prepoll, absentee and postal votes (found here), and data about where people in each area (SA1) voted (found here, both data sets are from the Australian Electoral Commission). Estimates are generated by amalagmating the voting data across polling places and vote types to reflect where people in an individual area voted.
Each area represents a Statistical Area 1 (SA1) which represent somewhere between 100-1000 people (not voters), the larger outlined areas represent the 151 electoral divisions in existence at the 2022 election.
